Read & Feed - Read and Feed is a by-annual event hosted by youth in the Carter Lake youth groups, and is open to the community. We offer a low cost meal, and have celebrity readers reading books during dinner and a game to give away the books to youth. We have also incorporated a book swap for adults at the Read and Feeds. At the CLCRC we believe a big part of prevention is a good education. Read and Feed offers us a way to put that theory into practice. Communities Mobilizing for Change on Alcohol (CMCA) - CMCA is a community-wide initiative to reduce underage youths access to alcohol Youth Cooking Classes - Through a partnership with the Iowa State Extension Offices we host monthly cooking classes, taught by a licensed youth nutritionist. Youth Craft Classes - Taught monthly be CLCRC staff. Christmas Basket Project - The annual Christmas Basket Project involves many different organizations in Carter Lake. Volunteers from Our Lady of Carter Lake Catholic Church, City Hall and the staff of the CLCRC act as project coordinators, in order to bring food, clothing and gifts to Carter Lake families in need. |
